Club Legend - Doug Milne

Doug and his family had moved into Vermont South in 1975. His son Darren played his first 2 years of cricket with the Parkmore Primary School team. On turning 10 , Darren wished to play for a "real club", and it was in this year the Vermont South Cricket Club was starting. Doug took Darren to junior practice and while watching them practice in the nets was approached by a group of senior players practicing on the adjacent ground.

They queried if Doug was interested in playing himself. His replied that he would join in training for the morning while Darren was with the juniors. This led Doug to becoming a foundation member of the club, and he top scored with 79 for the first eleven in the clubs first match in B1 grade against Heatherdale.

Doug played 122 games with the club, the first 7 years exclusively in the first eleven. He then captained the second eleven, and in this role played in the same team with Darren in 1985. Doug retired as a player in1988.

Doug was a junior team manger for 6 years, served on the committee for 4 years and was President for two years. He was awarded life membership of the club in 1988.

Doug has maintained his connection with the club through his son Darren, daughter Kelli, daughter-in-law Sally, and grandsons Nick and Sam, all of whom have played with the club.
